25C — Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit →
Annual cap is $1,200 most categories, $2,000 for heat pumps / HPWH / biomass. Resets each tax year — strategic to split projects across calendar years.

Level 2 (240V) home EV charging installation — circuit upgrade + charger hardware + sometimes a smart-charger / load-management component.
Why it matters
Most PNW utilities now offer EV-charger-specific incentive programs. Often the rebate is for the CIRCUIT install (panel + run + receptacle) rather than the charger itself, since the charger is portable but the circuit is permanent.
Typical install scope
Dedicated 240V 30A or 50A circuit run from main panel to garage/driveway. May require panel upgrade if existing service is at capacity. Some utilities require enrolled smart-chargers for time-of-use rate participation.
Pacific Northwest context
PSE's Up & Go Electric program covers a meaningful portion of EV-charger install costs for residential customers. Time-of-use rates (overnight charging) significantly reduce per-kWh cost — most utilities have a TOU-EV plan available.
Install notes
If installing alongside a heat pump or HPWH, scope the panel upgrade for the LARGER load — easier to size up once than upgrade twice. EV chargers with NEMA 14-50 outlets give you flexibility to switch chargers later; hardwired installs are faster and don't trip GFCI nuisance.

Utility
PSE separates electric and gas incentives. If converting from gas to heat pump, you may unlock both gas-side (decommission) and electric-side (install) rebates. Check the contractor finder for PSE Trade Allies.
Utility
SnoPUD's PowerHaul Heat Pump program has specific equipment-tier requirements (HSPF / SEER thresholds). Match your spec sheet to the program tier before purchase.
Utility
Seattle's Building Performance Standards and electrification mandates can stack with SCL rebates for some property types. Check both program tracks before scoping.
